Both the Thinkpad Edge and the Dell Vostro 13 are great laptops. The Dell Vostro 13 was recommended in my “The Best Laptops You Heaven’t Heard About” article. They’re both business line products meant for durability, so they should both be able to withstand substantial pressure without problem.
However, Lenovo has posted a video on Youtube showing that the Dell Vostro 13 fails a stress test which the Thinkpad 13 passes. The test puts downward pressure on the edges and middle of the closed laptop’s lid to see if the LCD is damaged. Sure enough, the Thinkpad comes through fine, but the Dell doesn’t.
Is it legit? Well, that’s a good question, because the pressure being put on the laptops is never stated. Even so, you should check out the video, if only so that you can be reminded why you should treat your laptop carefully.
