Intel Announces Revamp of Intel Classmate PC

by Matthew Smith on April 26, 2010

The Intel Convertible Classmate PC has long been included on my guide to the best tablet netbooks, and according to an Intel press release it appears that this old favorite is getting some updates to make it more competitive with other recent devices.

The screen is being increased in size from 8.9 inches to the more common 10.1 inch, but the standard resolution stays the same at 1024×600. A built-in camera is now included, and Intel is now quoting 8.5 hours of battery life, which would be best-in-class if true. Other new options include 3G Internet, GPS, and an optional 1366×768 screen. Also, these new models will be powered by the newer Atom N450 rather than the old N270.

Availability isn’t clear. So far I have only been able to find the older models online. These are meant for school use first, so it may be awhile before we seen them available to the general public.
