Looking for a good deal on a HP laptop? You’re in luck. HP has been running some great deals lately on the HP Envy, among others, and right now Savings.com is offering a $200 dollar coupon on the HP Envy. That brings the price down to $1099 for the basic 15 inch HP Envy model which is, really, more than powerful enough for most users. Additional HP coupons are also available on other HP laptops, such as the HP Pavilion series, but the HP Envy is the standout buy right now.

If you’re interested in Dell coupons, Savings.com also has some of those available, although right now the deals are being updated.

Apple is now offering the updated Macbook Pro line, but that of course doesn’t mean that the old Macbook Pros have disappeared. They’re still in stock, and still need to be sold even though they’re not the latest and greatest Macbook Pros around. That means good deals on older Macbook Pros which need to be cleared out. Let’s take a look at a few Macbook deals around the web.

Amazon.com is offering discounts on 13.3, 15.4, and 17 inch Macbook models. The discounts are not huge compared to Amazon.com’s list, but compared to the new models on the Mac store they’re huge.

For reference, let’s first look at the new price of the Macbook Pro line on the Apple website.

Now let’s look at the prices on the old models on Amazon.com

Obviously, you can save a bit of money by buying these older models right now. But are the discounts worth the reduction in features? In my opinion they probably are. While the upgrades to the Macbook Pro line are great, they weren’t anemic in the first place, and there just isn’t that much your average Mac user will be doing that is going to put a strain on a Core 2 Duo processor.

Want a basic netbook? You’re in luck. The MSI Wind U130 is now available for $264.99 at Newegg after a mail in rebate ($279.99 without the rebate). That’s a damned low price – nearing that $250 dollar mark – and the netbook itself is quite good. It even includes a 1.3megapixel webcam and wireless b/g/n support.

The only downside is the battery. This is a six cell model, so expect four or five hours of battery life tops. However, if you’re more interested in a netbook for its price than its mobility this is a very good deal.

The Core i7 is the fastest mobile processor available today, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a good deal on it. Logicbuy is currently offering a decked-out Ideapad Y560 with the i7-720QM, 4GB of RAM and Mobility Radeon HD5370 graphics for only $999.

This is in fact the first time I’ve noticed a Core i7 laptop under the $1000 mark, and it is remarkable that this ain’t no stripper model. The Lenovo Ideapad Y560 is also a damn fine laptop no matter what hardware it has. In fact, it is so fine that this is the model of laptop which I recommended to my mom when she was shopping for a laptop about a year ago.

Just a few days ago I posted the Netbook Reviews coverage of the Samsung N150. It is yet another example of why Samsung makes some of the best netbooks today. Great keyboard, matte screen, solid build quality, and you won’t have an Eee PC like everyone else. What’s not to love?

Now Amazon.com has sweetened the deal by lowering prices on all Samsung N150 netbooks. The basic models, which are available in black, blue, or red, are now running $309.99. The more flamboyant colors, which include Flamingo Pink, Caribbean Yellow and Bermuda Blue, are $319.99. As far as I’m aware this is the best deal yet offered on the Samsung N150, so hop on it!

If you want a laptop with solid mobility, but you’re not quite as concerned about its size, the Acer Aspire Timeline AS5810TZ is a good choice. It offers all the power that you could need while plugged in but is capable of eight hours of battery life on the go.

Sound appealing? Circuit City currently has the Acer Aspire Timeline AS5810TZ on sale for $399.97. That’s pretty damn low price for this laptop – it usually goes for around $550. It isn’t the highest end model, as the processor is only 1.3Ghz, but it does have a 320GB hard drive and 3GB of RAM. If you’re looking for a mainstream laptop but you can’t stand the short battery life on the inexpensive models usually offered, this is a deal you should jump on.

The MSI Wind U110 has always been a bit of an unsung hero. It isn’t the best at any one thing, but it is very good at everything. The keyboard is great, the screen is nice, the chassis feels sturdy, the specs are fine, the battery life is superb, and the price is always low.

Hot damn! I love SSDs. I think that everyone who can afford an SSD should purchase one for the primary hard drive of at least one computer. Once you’ve seen the difference that they make in performance you really won’t want to go back to using a mechanical hard drive.

But it has been that whole “who can afford” thing which has been in the way. Even I, a true convert, only own a single SSD (in my desktop system) because I really can’t afford to purchase one which would be large for my own notebook.
