The rest of the world says “duh.”
Actually, that’s not quite correct. There are really a lot of people that absolutely no conception of the numbers in which netbooks or tablets actually sell, so it is easy to come to the conclusion that tablets are going to take over and convert our world to some sort of Sci-Fi paradise.
Let’s put things into perspective. Netbooks sold about 35 million units in 2009. 35 million. The iPad, the only tablet which is selling in numbers, has sold about 1 million in its first month, so even if the iPad was selling for an entire year, and was able to continue its launch sales rate, the iPad would sell about 12 million units. That’s short of the 18 million Eee PCs which ASUS is expecting to shift by the end of 2010.
