As an enthusiast it is easy to get distracted by the fantastic performance which is offered by solid state drives. But there is still space for innovation in the mechanical drive arena, and this time it comes courtesy of Western Digital, everyone’s favorite hard drive company.
Somehow they’ve managed to cram 750 whole gigabytes into a 2.5″ laptop drive. 750 of them! That’s like cramming 50 Shaquille O’Neals into a thimble! It certainly is more space than most laptop users will ever need, but as is typical with mechanical drives today, Western Digital wants to lure you in with the siren call of price. These drives are already available, and cost less than $150 dollars. Enough to make me re-think purchasing a SSD to upgrade my laptop? Yea, I think it is.
